Benjamin Cool and his wife Jane, both born in New York State, came to Bremen Township in the 1840s and settled on a farm where the Midlothian Country Club now stands. In the 1850s Cool built a stone house at 148th and Cicero whose outside walls were two feet thick. this house was owned by members of the Cool family until 1918, and it remained standing until 1972, when it was destroyed by fire. This house served as the area's first courthouse. The farm stretched along Cicero from 147th Street to 159th Street. |
