April 23, 2011 - Cemetery Clean-Up & Headstone Recovery

In celebration of Earth Day, a litter clean-up and headstone recovery effort will take place on Saturday, April 23rd, between 12:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. All efforts will be focused upon the path leading to the cemetery, the cemetery itself, and the general area around the nearby pond. Also scheduled is the recovery of a war veteran headstone found within the pond. Assistance will be needed lifting the headstone out of the water so if you feel that you will be able to help please contact a coordinator ahead of time so they may plan accordingly. For further details about the headstone please visit the forum topic hosted by the Bachelors Grove Cemetery & Settlement Recreational Center.

All volunteers will be meeting at the cemetery itself along with garbage bags and gloves being provided by the Forest Preserve District. Please note that you may want to bring a hard metal rake if you are taking part in dragging litter out of the pond. Dedicated photographers are needed for this event so please feel free to bring your equipment and have fun watching the activities while taking part in some great conversation.

Earlier this month the Forest Preserve District of Cook County came out to erect the adoption sign for the woods surrounding Bachelors Grove cemetery. As always, the Grove Restoration Project is honored to be a part of the Preserve Keeper Corps Adopt-A-Site program and we look forward to many more years of service to the community! It is also a true pleasure to finally give the surrounding woods a name which also happens to be in recognition to the family that founded the cemetery.

If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us. See you all on the 24th!
