November 14, 2010 - Cemetery Brush-Pile Burn

November 14, 2010 - Cemetery Brush-Pile Burn

A cemetery event will take place Sunday, November 14th, between 9:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. The efforts will be focused on burning the brush-piles that were raked up during October as well as other brush-piles left over from previous events. In order to open up the area for scenic viewing there will be the removal of Buckthorn next to the pond just outside of the northern entrance to the cemetery. The area outside of the cemetery between the chain-link fence and Tinley Creek will also be cleared out to prepare for the actual burn-site.

All of the necessary tools will be provided but if you wish to bring along an extra wheel barrow it would be very much appreciated. Although the weather is starting to get a little chilly many rest periods will take place around the warm fire which will create a very relaxing atmosphere. Due to the nature of the event there will be particular areas closed off for safety. Casual visitors to the area may freely watch the activities from many of the open locations.

Further approval is pending from the Forest Preserve District to clear additional areas. Those areas include the entire path leading to the cemetery and around the cemetery itself. The Real Estate Management Office has returned to the process of transferring the cemetery over to the Forest Preserve District. Once the transfer is complete additional work will be completed within the cemetery by the Grove Restoration Project.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact a coordinator.

See you all on the 14th!
