32 year old Joe Renzetti is an 11 year veteran of electronic music. Joe was born in Columbus Ohio and currently resides there. He spends his days as a professional Web Designer when He's not brewing up sonic spells. His music is electronic based & largely influenced by dark brooding sounds reminiscent of the Gothic scene of the 80's & 90's. Joe's a self-taught guitarist, keyboardist, bassist, singer, & sound designer. He produces all his own music, under the name of Ax Nyslie, as well as perform all of the music parts himself. He tends to avoid looped phrases or factory presets common in the more "teched-out" computer generated music. This gives his work a more natural human sound that breathes life in a flowing musical manner.
Joe's musical background began at age 13 playing guitar as a hobby. By 17 he started to pursue music more seriously, writing original songs and playing synths along with his guitar. In 1988 he learned record engineering and music production at The Recording Workshop school in Ohio. After he left two years of work for Greenpeace in 1991 and relocating to San Francisco, Joe began aggressively writing and cut his first demo album. It was rather crude sounding guitar driven electronic pop music, but his journey had begun.
Joe further developed his writing and producing skills and in 1994 recorded a self- titled demo album. It featured 6 songs of progressive oriented pop music. One song on the album, "The Lost Cats Cry", was features on a KITS radio compilation album of local Bay Area artists called "Noisy Neighbors".
In 1995 Joe recorded a second 7 song demo album, "The Forgotten Daydream". More aggressive and darker sounding than the first., blending heavy industrial rhythms with droning gothic sounds. His production and sound designing skills were taken to further levels.
After the two demo albums, Joe took a brief hiatus and got his first Macintosh computer. He spent the next four years rapidly learning Mac skills becoming an expert on the platform, learning everything from music production to graphics and web design. Joe currently deigns web sites for other people as well as this one.
During this time Joe built a home pre-production studio around the Mac with midi and digital audio and recorded his third project "Discovery". This full length album represented a break from the pop music of past work and began a new path into the realm of ambient music. Discovery is 12 songs based entirely of synth-based space music. An instrumental concept album dubbed "a sonic journey to the heart of inner space", Discovery showcased a new writing style, focusing more on atmospheres and moods rather than the traditional structured songs of popular music. After Discovery, Joe upgraded his home studio to full scale production and now creates all his work at home, resulting in his new album "Talking To The Dead". A conceptual album like Discovery, Talking To The Dead is twelve songs about the paranormal spirit world. The album features spooky bleak textures mixed with melodic passages from ethnic and electronic sounds and a few samples from the "dead". An evocative and sometimes scary soundtrack of the spiritual dreamscape. It was a surprise hit receiving rave reviews and praise from critics and fans alike. It's been played on numerous radio and internet stations and in underground clubs as well as being mentioned in several industry magazines and web sites. The song "Lalurie" was featured on the nationally syndicated radio show Hearts of Space program titled "Funeral Songs". The album is on sale at mp3.com
After the success of Talking to the Dead, Joe took a brief hiatus from music and relocated back to his hometown of Columbus Ohio. After he settled in from his sabbatical he eventually returned to writing and released his new album, Remnants of Zen. Yet another departure from the past, Remnants of Zen is a minimalist four part concept, each song a long atmospheric piece establishing a moment of tranquility and a reflection of the simplicity of ones past. The use of classic vintage synth sounds helps establish the mood. It's an attempt at capturing the sound of Zen itself. Remnants of Zen is an exclusive mp3.com release and is on sale there now.
